Just final week, Charlie Bird shared that his motor neuron illness is “changing fast” after being recognized again in 2021.
Now, the previous RTÉ correspondent has taken to X, previously generally known as Twitter to ship a considerably optimistic update on his situation.
There, he revealed how he has discovered a brand new sense of “freedom” as he was in a position to get out and about in his new wheelchair for the primary time.
Beginning his heartfelt submit, Charlie wrote: “I’ve turned one other nook in my life.
“This afternoon I obtained out, for the primary time in my new wheelchair.
“It’s going to give me freedom to continue extending the hand of friendship to people in dark places and helping raise awareness for the elephant in the room for Samaritans,” he added.
Charlie’s feedback have been then flooded with individuals’s nicely needs with one writing: “You are an inspiration to many and I hope you enjoy your new freedom and mobility.”
“Well done Charlie, you continue to inspire us, thought of you a lot yesterday as I climbed Croagh Patrick with friends, I struggled through some of it and I am in awe of you doing the difficult trek. Keep safe Charlie, keep fighting, and extending the hand of friendship,” penned one other.
This comes after Charlie revealed again in August that he may not walk unassisted.
In 2022, Charlie famously climbed Croagh Patrick with a bunch of individuals, elevating a whopping €3.6m for the nationwide suicide prevention charity Pieta House and the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Since his analysis, Charlie has raised tens of millions for a number of charities round Ireland, together with the Irish MND Association, Pieta House, Samaritans and Irish Hospice.
