American public broadcaster PBS has picked up the US rights to indigenous Canadian drama Little Bird.
The six-part collection, created by Jennifer Podemski and Hannah Moscovitch and bought internationally by Fremantle, will make its US debut on all PBS platforms on October 12. In Canada, it debuted on Bell Media-owned streamer Crave and indigenous broadcaster APTN in May.
Produced by Montreal-based Rezolution Pictures and OP Little Bird, the hour-long present follows a First Nations girl (performed by Darla Contois) as she embarks on a path to seek out her beginning household and uncover the hidden fact of her household historical past.
The drama collection is ready in opposition to the historic backdrop of The Sixties Scoop, a time period when an estimated 20,000 indigenous kids have been taken from their households and communities and adopted by white households.
The collection is govt produced by Christina Fon, Ernest Webb, Catherine Bainbridge, Linda Ludwick, Kim Todd, Nicholas Hirst, Podemski, Moscovitch, Zoe Hopkins, Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers and Jeremy Podeswa, together with Fremantle’s Christian Vesper and Dante Di Loreto.
PBS additionally acquired the 90-minute companion documentary, Coming Home, which gives historic context for the drama collection. The doc is directed by Erica Daniels (Run as One).
