Nashville’s personal Brother Bird’s new single, “Always,” together with its official music video, was launched on February 6, 2024; the only heralds the upcoming launch of the album “Another Year,” scheduled for March 8, 2024, underneath Easy Does It Records.
Reflecting on the creation of the only, Caroline shared, “In 2021, I collaborated with Luke Sital Singh and Tim Bruns to write this song initially for sync opportunities in TV and film. However, the melody struck a personal chord with me. As I was selecting tracks for this album, I felt a strong connection to include this one. It resonated with a deep personal experience I was undergoing at the time, making the lyrics significantly meaningful. Crafting this song was almost a solitary, subconscious process, where the words found me before their full impact was clear. ‘Always’ perfectly encapsulates this experience.”
“Another Year” stands as Brother Bird’s most emotionally resonant work so far. Caroline, each a co-producer and author for the album, alongside producer Owen Lewis, infuses the music with influences starting from The Cranberries’ melodic sensibilities, and Mazzy Star’s shoegaze parts to Big Thief’s distinctive guitar sounds, all whereas exploring the theme of anticipation.
The album navigates by way of the complexities of human expertise, from the profound to the non-public, bearing on themes of introspection, existential queries, and intimate relationships in tracks like “state of mind,” “ghost,” and “always.” “Suburbs” explores paths not taken, and “final scene” affords a love ode to the apocalypse. “Famous” delves into Caroline’s early brush with success, a monitor revisited and refined from her debut EP in 2018, remodeling from a difficult piece right into a humorous commentary on self-doubt and the nervousness accompanying fame.
