Sitting at an altitude of over 4,000 meters, the Longbaotan Wetlands in Yushu City, Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, is without doubt one of the 4 wetlands listed as a Wetland of International Importance in northwest China’s Qinghai Province. It covers a complete space of 9,529 hectares, and over one-third of the land is wetland.
In Tibetan, “longbao” refers to a place with fish and birds. The Longbaotan Wetlands certainly offers meals and habitat for migratory birds and endemic fish. It is a vital breeding floor for black-necked cranes. The chicken’s inhabitants has elevated from 22 in 1984 to over 200 now.
