Spotted Forktail (Enicurus maculatus) is a winter customer discovered close to water streams and canals in moist semi-montane forests. The chook is categorized as a reasonably widespread chook within the Inter-State Chandigarh Region (ISCR), which has loads of semi-montane forests.

The female and male Spotted Forktail look alike. It is a black-and-white chook with a white brow and fore-crown, black again noticed white, white under with a protracted, graduated and deeply-forked tail in black and white. The white spots throughout its physique and its lengthy tail distinguish it from the Little Forktail, which lacks a protracted tail.

The white, noticed again simply distinguishes this species from different similar-sized forktails. Although there are three species of forktails – Spotted Forktail, Little Forktail, and Slaty-backed Forktail – solely two are present in ISCR. Little Forktail, which can also be a winter customer, was categorised as an unusual customer that hardly ever visits ISCR.

The Spotted Forktail’s name is a shrill, screechy Kree, largely given in flight; it additionally makes some shrill, squeaky notes whereas perched. It breeds largely at 1,200-3,600 metres and descends to about 600 metres in winter. Spotted Forktails habitually flip leaves, particles, and small pebbles and stones in quest of prey.
