The winners of this 12 months’s Bird Photographer of the Year awards have been introduced.

The annual competitors sees photographers compete in a lot of totally different classes within the grownup competitors, together with a Conservation Award, Portfolio Award, and Video Award. There are additionally classes for young entrants.

Jack Zhi’s dramatic picture of a feminine Peregrine Falcon defending her young has received the primary class – the Bird Photographer of the Year award. The image, taken in California, beat greater than 20,000 entries to assert the prize.

“For 4 years, I tried to seize the uncommon sight of the feminine falcon attacking giant brown pelicans with unimaginable velocity and agility,” Zhi mentioned. “I like the eyes of the pelican on this picture: shocked and scared. The Young Bird Photographer of the Year award went to 17-year-old German photographer Anton Trexler for his atmospheric image of a Blackbird silhouetted towards the moon.
