Rock Pigeons by Liron Gertsman/Audubon Photography Awards/2023 Grand Prize Winner. Now in its 14th year, the Audubon Photography Awards highlights the specialists, beginners, and youth that develop amazing visuals of birds. The just recently revealed winners of the 2023 edition were chosen from 2,200 entrants residing in all 50 U.S. states and 8 Canadian provinces.
In completion, wildlife professional photographer Liron Gertsman took home the grand reward. The Canadian professional photographer, who has a biology degree and leads photography tours throughout Canada, won for his touching picture of 2 rock pigeons. Gertsman is just 23, however he’s already going far for himself in the field. After winning the Professional classification in the 2022 edition of the contest, he had the ability to increase to the leading and capture the $5,000 prize money.
Amateur professional photographer Karen Blackwood was singled out for her sensational picture of a chinstrap penguin. Her picture of the penguin diving from an iceberg into the cool waters of Cierva Cove in Antarctica won the Amateur classification. Kieran Barlow, who won the Youth classification, didn’t need to take a trip far from home for his acclaimed image. The 18-year-old professional photographer from Massachusetts took his wonderful image of a sandpiper frolicking by the water on the coast of New Jersey.
All of the winners and respectable discusses were carefully vetted by a specialist panel of judges that consists of wildlife professional photographers, conservationists, and staff from the National Audubon Society.
