Former RTÉ journalist Charlie Bird has died on the age of 74 following a protracted battle with motor neuron illness.
One of RTÉ’s most famous information correspondents, Charlie Bird reported on among the largest tales in Ireland and internationally throughout his 40-year profession with the nationwide broadcaster together with the Stardust fireplace, the National Irish Bank tax avoidance scandal, the 9/11 terrorist assaults in 2001 within the US, and the 2004 Indian ocean tsunami.
Mr Bird joined RTÉ in 1972 to work as a researcher earlier than later transferring to the newsroom. His closing RTÉ broadcast was in August 2012 after 40 years with the broadcaster.
Charlie Bird was recognized with motor neuron illness in October 2021 and spoke publicly about his sickness whereas elevating important funds for a lot of charity organisations together with the ‘Climb with Charlie’ initiative during which he walked with 1000’s of individuals throughout the nation to lift funds for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) and Pieta House.
