An Antiques Roadshow visitor was left definitely staggered after learning the worth of a brooch gave by her family.

On Sunday’s episode, professional Joanna Hardy had a look at a gold and silver bird brooch, and revealed a spectacular evaluation of just how much the product might be worth.

‘This is a very special jewel and I wasn’t dissatisfied when I opened package to see this. But likewise it’s a really unique celebration I hear,’ she said to 3 generations from the exact same family, consisting of an infant lady.

The visitor’s child explained how the brooch was provided to her own mom by her grandmother when she was born, and after that it was passed onto her when she invited her own child into the world.

‘And to think that this brooch has been passed down through these generations, that is what jewellery is all about,’ Joanna responded.

‘I love it because it is everything that I look for in a jewel, it is beautifully crafted. Everything you see has been hand done and handmade.’

She indicated the ‘yellow diamonds’, and the head of the animal – which looked far better than a horrible bird which was valued at a very high rate in another recent episode – made from ‘all white diamonds’, and an ’emerald eye’.

She included: ‘And what I love to see, you might not see the other eye but they have always paid attention to the reverse and you’ve got it sitting set down on a line of baguette diamonds and after that you’ve got these 3 Marquise cut sapphires.’

When it pertains to the evaluation itself, the visitors were both noticeably surprised by Joanna’s quote for the piece.

‘I mean, it really is absolutely superb,’ she said. ‘And if you were going to buy something similar, you would probably need to spend about £25,000 and £30,000.’

‘No,’ the senior visitor said with her hand to her mouth, informing her child: ‘Look after it!’

She later on said: ‘I am delighted that it is so valuable because it is such a special thing to hand down.’

Meanwhile, one audience joked the evaluation may imply the brooch doesn’t get given to the next generation.

They quipped: ’30k. The kid won’t see the kingfisher brooch ever once again. #AntiquesRoadshow’

Antiques Roadshow airs Sundays at 8pm on BBC One.
