Thurrock owners deal with £100 fines if dogs let go leashes at cemeteries

A brand-new Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) implies that owners of dogs who do not get after their family pet or enable them off the leash in among Thurrock’s cemeteries can be provided with a £100 repaired charge notification.

Ben Maney, councillor accountable for transportation and public safety, said: “We understand the huge bulk of dog owners are completely accountable however it is just right we ask, out of regard for our cemeteries and the mourners attending them, that all dogs are kept a lead which their owners pick-up after them.

“This PSPO provides our enforcement officers the powers they require to deal with anybody who enables their dog to run totally free in a cemetery or even worse still, stops working to clean up after them.”

The PSPO entered into force on Friday (February 3) and needs owners to eliminate any dogs mess left by their animals and to make sure that dogs are on a leash at all times in the district’s cemeteries

Andrew Jefferies, councillor accountable for environment, said: “Our cemeteries are not just lovely open areas they are a location for individuals to grieve, show and keep in mind the lives’ of liked ones.
