Spain is in for another wet weekend as the temperatures take another dip

Summer storms set to continue: Spain weather forecast June 1-4

Spain is winging its way towards the summer but the unpredictable spring weather is set to continue for a few days yet, with storms aplenty forecast across mainland Spain and in the Balearic Islands over the weekend. This will also pull the temperatures down in many areas but the extreme south can look forward to a least a few bright, warm spells.

A new wave of storms will wash over the country on Thursday June 1, and the weather will become progressively worse as the day marches on. The rain will be heaviest in the northwest, where temperatures will plummet, but the Balearic and Canary Islands can also expect abundant showers.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has placed more than a dozen autonomous communities on alert for torrential rain on June 1st and up to 20 litres per square metre could fall in many of these areas, often accompanied by hail. As has been the trend all week, the southwest of the country will escape the worst.

Yellow alert for storms and heavy rain: Andalucia, Aragón, Balearic Islands, Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Galicia, Madrid, Region of Murcia, Navarra, Basque Country, La Rioja and the Valencian Community.

Minimum and maximum temperatures on Thursday

Alicante: 18ºC; 24ºC

Málaga: 19ºC; 25ºC

Murcia: 15ºC; 27ºC

Unlike earlier in the week, the probability of showers and storms will increase in southwestern Spain on Friday June 2, although the entire country will cool down considerably, reaching lower daytime temperatures than usual for this time of year.

It promises to be mostly overcast across the country and as the afternoon progresses, the stormy weather will extend to much of inland Spain.

Yellow alert for storms and heavy rain: Andalucia, Aragón, Asturias, Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Galicia, Region of Murcia, Navarra, La Rioja and the Valencian Community.

Minimum and maximum temperatures on Friday

Alicante: 16ºC; 25ºC

Málaga: 18ºC; 24ºC

Murcia: 16ºC; 25ºC

The fickle spring-like weather will continue into the weekend but the storms will lose their intensity on Saturday June 3, although the skies will remain cloudy and the entire country can expect occasional showers. This rain will be heavier and more frequent inland during the afternoon, reaching its height in the northwest.

Daytime temperatures will return to normal values for the beginning of June, although northeasterly winds along the coasts could create a chill.

Yellow alert for storms and heavy rain: Aragón and Catalonia.

Minimum and maximum temperatures on Saturday

Alicante: 17ºC; 25ºC

Málaga: 18ºC; 24ºC

Murcia: 16ºC; 27ºC

Very little change is expected on Sunday June 4 although there are currently no weather warnings in place. It will be another overcast day across the board though and the chance of showers and stormy intervals will increase in the afternoon/evening. As usual, inland Spain will experience the heaviest rain although the east of the country will also get a drenching later in the day. The coasts should remain mostly clear.

Minimum and maximum temperatures on Sunday

Alicante: 17ºC; 25ºC

Málaga: 18ºC; 24ºC

Murcia: 15ºC; 28ºC
