LONDON (ICIS)–The European Commission
introduced the initiation of an anti-dumping
investigation regarding imports of sure
polyethylene terephthalate (PET) originating
from China.
The product topic to this investigation is
PET with a viscosity of 78 ml/g or greater.
The investigation of dumping and harm will
cowl the earlier 12 months, from 1 January 2022 to
31 December 2022. The examination of traits
related for the evaluation of harm will
cowl an expanded time frame from 1 January
2019 to the tip of the investigation interval.
According to the official journal of the
European Union, all events
wishing to touch upon the criticism have 37
days from 30 March 2023 wherein to take action.
Any requests for a listening to with regard to the
initiation of the investigation should be
submitted inside 15 days of the 30 March 2023.
Those wishing to submit info on the
product scope should achieve this inside 10 days of the
date of 30 March 2023.
The criticism, made on behalf of the Union
trade of PET, was lodged on 14 February
2023.
Market members have been anticipating news of the
investigation, as demand has been pitched
towards excessive prices in
Europe firstly of 2023.
PET resins may be broadly categorized into
bottle, fibre or movie grade, named based on
the downstream purposes. Bottle grade resin
is essentially the most generally traded type of PET resin
and it’s utilized in bottle and container
packaging via blow moulding and
thermoforming.
Fibre grade resin goes into making polyester
fibre, whereas movie grade resin is utilized in
electrical and versatile packaging purposes.
PET may be compounded with glass fibre for the
manufacturing of engineering plastics.
