WASHINGTON — The Department of Defense has accepted a brand new coverage to cowl pet journey bills, like pet transportation or quarantine charges, incurred by Service members throughout a Permanent Change of Station (PCS).
As of January 1, 2024, army Service members going by means of a PCS inside the continental United States may be reimbursed as much as $550 for one family pet, both cat or canine, and as much as $2,000 for strikes to or from a location exterior the continental United States to cowl prices associated to the transportation of a pet.
Historically, service members paid the vast majority of out-of-pocket bills to move pets when assigned to a brand new obligation station. This coverage reduces that monetary burden whereas recognizing the vital function a pet performs in a army household’s family.
