Transporter authorisations stand for 5 years, and a substantial number are due for renewal in 2022.
The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) is advising all animal transporters to inspect the expiration date of their existing transporter authorisation and make an application for renewal at the earliest possible chance, to make sure ongoing authorisation.
UK transporter authorisations are needed for those transferring animals, as part of a financial activity, on journeys over 65km within, from, to and through GB. Transporters associated with financial activity consist of farmers, animals and poultry hauliers, family pet carriers and rescue charities, and those who move horses in connection with expert riding, livery and stabling.
There are 2 kinds of transporter authorisation; Type 1 (brief journey) which are needed for journeys over 65km and as much as 8 hours in duration and Type 2 (long journey) which are needed for those transferring animals for journeys over 8 hours.
In order to adhere to existing well-being in transportation guidelines, animal transporters need to send an application to restore their authorisation. Failure to do so threats heavy charges if transporters are discovered to be running without legitimate authorisation.
