A PET owner has shared a warning to others after her pup ate a common bathroom item which could have proved deadly.

Kirstin’s golden retriever Tucker managed to make a meal of her used tampons, and she documented the scary experience on TikTok.

Kirstin explained: “Tucker recently discovered he enjoys a really delectable snack of used tampons. Somehow, Tucker got into our bathroom trash.”

After his dangerous choice of a meal, Kirstin rushed Tucker to the vet, and she broke down the cost of each item.

The exam alone cost £45, and her pooch was given a vomit-inducing solution for a price of £35, and that’s when she realised just how many tampons he gobbled.

“They discovered that eight tampons came out… I thought it was going to be like two to four!”

After Tucker got the products out of his system, they charged another £20 for an “anti-nausea shot”.

She continued: “Because he had thrown up so much, they did give him fluids, which was £25.

“They had to clean up the mess – and I feel like they severely undercharged me for this – but they charged me for one biohazard removal, which was £2.50.”

Tucker was also given low fat food for £1.50, and a medication for three days, at a cost of £17.

Kirstin recommended other pet owners get insurance so they aren’t hit with a big bill.

Another pet owner said her pooch got into tampons as well: “My childhood dog did this. We would find them in the yard after she went to the bathroom. She loved them.”

One woman was forced to sell her car to pay an £11,000 vet bill after her insurance refused to help.

The dog lover claims that a pet insurance company left her in the lurch after her furry friend got “very sick”.

She explained that she was a policy holder for three years and she paid every month to make sure her dog was insured.

But as the vet bills rose to a whopping $14,000 (£11,000) she claimed they refused to pay out despite her being a loyal customer.

Pet owner Sabrina dished out over £20,000 after her French bulldog had to be rushed to the vet.

Referring to the huge cost to save the dog’s life, she told 9Now’s A Current Affair: “I couldn’t believe it.”

Daniele, the dog’s other owner added: “It’s a massive, massive bill so we’re just asking them to reconsider.”

Sabrina said they had forked out more than £2,600 to a reputable breeder for their registered pet, with the dog, now five years old, running into some health issues.

She said: “Unfortunately, these French bulldogs, they’re ticking time bombs.”
