Tesco Personal Finance was born out of a partnership between Tesco plc and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in 1997.
In 2008, Tesco bought out RBS’s share and rebranded as Tesco Bank, which today offers a wide range of financial products from home insurance, to car insurance, pet insurance, credit cards, personal loans and mortgages.

Does Tesco Bank offer the best home insurance?
Here’s how Tesco Bank scored in our latest home insurance survey:
Tesco Bank’s home insurance policy: is it good or bad?
Tesco Bank’s buildings policy scored 63%, ranking it 42nd of the 58 policies we analysed.
Its contents policy ranked 31st with a score of 63%.
Best and worst features of the Tesco Bank policy
Tesco’s policy provides ‘matching sets cover’ – meaning it’ll replace a set or suite of matching items if one is damaged and can’t be replaced. Its contents cover also increases by £7,500 during special events such as weddings and – unlike with many home insurance policies – customers earn a no-claims discount.
Unfortunately, you can’t protect your no-claims discount to reduce the effect claims have on your premium. Another area the policy flags slightly is in its boiler cover. If your boiler needs replacing, they’ll contribute just £250 towards the cost.
We’ve rated hundreds of policy details and picked out the best and worst elements of this cover.

How can you save money on Tesco Bank home insurance?
The first offer an insurer makes isn’t necessarily the best they’re able to provide. So, before coughing up your cash, check what other insurers are offering for comparable cover and ask if your current insurer can better it.
Carefully consider what’s optionally included in the quote. You may want the confidence of an all-singing, all dancing policy – but certain add-ons might not be for you, or could duplicate cover you already have separately.
Where you buy your cover can sometimes make a difference to what you’ll end up paying, which is why we recommend checking prices through multiple comparison sites (where available) as well as trying them direct.
Tesco Bank home insurance can be purchased online, over the phone, and from the following price comparison websites:
