The research study, which surveyed 1,000 dog and cat owners in America, clarifies how pet moms and dads choose to invest Valentine’s Day, and how animals affect them in their romantic choices and relationships.
Additionally, the study consists of the following findings:
• 46 percent of single animal owners choose to date somebody who owns a dog or a cat (55 percent of the participants state they do not choose to date somebody who dislikes dogs or cats)
• 60 percent of animal owners in relationships state their animal brought them and their partner more detailed
• half of couples choose to remain home with their animals on Valentine’s Day then head out
• One in 5 participants who remain in a relationship says they choose to hang out with their animal than with their partners. Further, one in 4 of the participants choose to snuggle with their animals than their partners.
“The majority of pet owners (87 percent) shared they spend up to $30 on their pets when gift giving,” says Beth Schmidt, AKC Pet Insurance agent and animal patterns professional. “We also uncovered how much of a critical role pets are playing in relationships, and we actually found 60 percent of respondents felt their dog or cat has brought them closer together with their partners.”
“We wanted to gain further insight into the role pets play in our lives when it comes to relationships–whether we are single or have a partner. Results confirmed some fun truths,” includes Schmidt. “The underlying theme [of the survey]–our relationships with our pets and our romantic relationships are not mutually exclusive–very much influence each other.”
