Owner Travels 1,800 Miles to Reunite with Pup Missing 17 Days: ‘Pets Are Actually Family’

Panfilo is again on the east coast after an surprising keep out west.

Last week, the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society shared the heartwarming story of the Maryland canine who left his proprietor’s sight whereas touring via Santa Fe, New Mexico, and ended up separated from his pet mum or dad.

Panfilo was touring with proprietor and truck driver Roughiatou — who “by no means gave up hope” that she would discover the pup — when he went lacking. Before reuniting together with his proprietor, Panfilo was dropped at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter as a stray.

While monitoring shelters on-line 17 days after shedding her canine, Roughiatou noticed the pup on the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society web site, prompting her to fly again to New Mexico from her home in Maryland to get him.

“Stories like this make us all smile a bit of wider and remind us that pets are actually household,” the shelter’s director of philanthropy, Pamela Weese Powell, wrote in a Facebook launch. “We’re so grateful to be right here as a useful resource to households and to our neighborhood.”

In a video of Panfilo’s reunion with Roughiatou, which the organization shared on its Facebook web page, the canine walks out to greet his proprietor, who squats all the way down to bathe the pooch in affection.

The pup jumps throughout Roughiatou and offers her licks whereas wagging his tail. Roughiatou then hugs a shelter employee and wipes tears from her face.

“While within the shelter’s care, Panfilo obtained a full medical workup, enrichment that included pupsicles and frozen kongs, and volunteers even started doing nostril work with him,” the Facebook submit about Panfilo’s reunion shared.

The heartfelt reunion comes 5 months after Bentley, a canine who went lacking three years in the past in Memphis, reunited with his late owner’s sister.

The pit bull was discovered wandering round Philadelphia in May and was dropped at the Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia’s shelter, the place he was scanned for a microchip. After trying to contact the pup’s proprietor, the shelter reached the pet mum or dad’s sister, Dee, who knowledgeable the shelter that Bentley’s proprietor died through the canine’s time away.

In a healthful clip shared by ACCT Philly, the canine reunites with Dee three years after initially going lacking. “My sister was walking him, and he or she fell down ‘trigger she had most cancers,” Dee says via tears through the second, explaining that the pair “appeared for him and we could not discover him.”
