New training marketing campaign goals to lift consciousness about funding disaster confronted by pet shelters

WASHINGTON, Nov. 20, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The Center for the Environment and Welfare (CEW) on Thursday launched a brand new marketing campaign geared toward educating the general public on how finest to assist pets of their communities on Giving Tuesday.

The marketing campaign stems from a brand new CEW survey of pet shelters and rescues throughout the United States. The survey discovered that native shelters are going through severe monetary challenges, largely resulting from widespread donor confusion relating to the function of nationwide teams just like the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and the Humane Society of the United States. Contrary to what most animal lovers consider, native shelters typically obtain little to no money from these nationwide teams at a time when a median of 1.5 million shelter pets are euthanized within the U.S. annually.

Of almost 2,000 pet shelters and rescues that participated within the survey:

  • 98% reported receiving zero monetary help from both the ASPCA or the Humane Society of the United States

  • 74% report their present funding ranges as insufficient

  • 76% consider that donors are confused by the branding of the Humane Society of the United States and the ASPCA

  • 64% consider that title confusion with nationwide teams has led to fewer donations

Full survey outcomes available here.

Informed by these outcomes, CEW’s Giving Tuesday marketing campaign explains that the easiest way for animal lovers to assist pets of their communities is to help their native shelters. Key parts of the marketing campaign embody:

CEW Executive Director Jack Hubbard had this to say:

“Across the nation, well-meaning animal lovers donate to huge nationwide charities just like the ASPCA and the Humane Society of the United States, mistakenly believing that they function pet shelters of their communities. In actuality, the Humane Society of the United States operates zero pet shelters, and neither organization is affiliated with native humane societies and SPCAs. On Giving Tuesday and every single day, the easiest way to assist cats and dogs is to present on to your native pet shelter.”
