Every year, Cats Protection hosts the National Cat Awards to shine a light on the unique felines that are making the world a much better location. This year’s occasion occurred last Tuesday at Wilton’s Music Hall in London, where one cat received the sought after title of National Cat of the Year. Zebby, a “hearing cat,” copes with 66-year-old Genevieve Moss. Because his owner is deaf, Zebby stays alert to any uncommon noises throughout the night.

“He has become my night watchman, my postman and guardian,” said Genevieve, according to USA Today. “He seems to know that when the phone rings, he needs to alert me. At nighttime, if my security light goes on, he seems to know to wake me up and he does so by tapping my face.”

Along with National Cat of the Year, Zebby was likewise commemorated in the Family Fur-ever classification. This award goes to “cats that go the extra mile for families,” according to the Cats Protection website. As Genevieve’s closest buddy, Zebby fits this description to a T. It’s worth keeping in mind that the feline never ever received any official training to end up being a hearing cat. He merely acknowledged that his owner required a little additional help.

“I am so proud of Zebby for showing the world how intuitive and caring cats can be, and what a positive effect they can have on people’s lives,” said Genevieve. “I can’t think of life without Zebby and I’m over the moon that he’s been honored in the National Cat Awards.

Ashley Fryer, the occasion’s organizer, was particularly moved by Zebby’s connection with his owner.

“Their story highlights the powerful bond that exists between people and their cats,” Ashley said. “He’s a shining example of the joy and comfort a cat can bring.”

Zebby received some excellent rewards as National Cat of the Year, consisting of an unique prize and an animal store coupon for Genevieve to purchase him additional treats!
