At a sentencing listening to final Thursday, April 11, Bradford Magistrates Court was informed that the ‘prolonged neglect’ and abandonment of the dogs by their proprietor for a protracted time frame couldn’t be thought to be something apart from ‘a deliberate act, perhaps short of sadistic behaviour’.

Where there wasn’t faeces there was rubbish and other hazards on the floor and it was difficult to move around. It smelt strongly of urine and faeces and it was difficult to stay inside. The smell caused my eyes and nose to burn.

“Towards the back of the room behind the sofa was a dog cage covered with a blue blanket. Inside was the body of a deceased dog which appeared to be a black and tan rottweiler puppy. There was no food or water inside the cage and it looked as though the dog had been trying for some time to get out.

“There were a number of bowls inside the cage all of which were empty and bone dry. There was a cushion on the bottom of the cage which was soaking wet and heavy to lift.

“The dog itself was in an emaciated condition. One of its legs was poked through the cage and wrapped around the bars. It was absolutely heartbreaking to think what this dog has gone through leading up to its death.”

“Due to the extreme nature of the emaciation and the huge numbers of live fleas, both conditions were long lasting, from weeks to months.”

Doris was began on fluid remedy and remained on the vets for over every week – throughout which era she handed plastic in her faeces – earlier than being transferred to an RSPCA centre. Sadly, regardless of one of the best efforts of vets and different workers, her situation deteriorated additional within the days that adopted and the choice was made to place her to sleep to stop additional struggling.
