FUN, shine and showers. That was the recipe for Sunday’s profitable Winter Extravaganza in Woodley city centre.
Entertainers, stalls, Santa and refreshments all got here collectively for a day trip for all ages, and organisers couldn’t be happier with the way it went, although the climate was a bit iffy.
As ever, the Crockhamwell Road buying precinct was full of stalls from charities and group teams, who organised tombolas, sale of products, and video games, all with the goal of elevating funds and consciousness.
Among these participating have been Cats Protection, Scouts, and Women’s Institutes.
Small and native businesses have been in a position to showcase their merchandise, and included arts and crafts, in addition to current concepts.
Members of Woodley’s Rotary Group had its barbecue going to serve up bacon butties and burgers, whereas different stalls provided a combination of road meals to attempt.
Throughout the day there was leisure on the Centre Stage, together with Steppin’ Out Stars of Tomorrow, singer Charis-Anne, and Olga and her Dancing Dogs.
Members of Circus Scene have been within the precinct entertaining with juggling shows, and serving to Santa in his sleigh.
Also in attendance was city crier Tony Roper, and MC for the day, Jack Sulman.
The occasion was opened by Wokingham Borough Mayor Cllr Beth Rowland, and Woodley Town Mayor Cllr Janet Sartorel.
“Thank you to the Woodley Town Centre partnership who organise this event every year, without it, Woodley would be a much sadder place,” Cllr Rowland stated.
“There are so many stalls, I’m sure you’ll find some wonderful Christmas presents and help support the many charities here today,” Cllr Sartorel stated.
Afterwards, Woodley Town Centre supervisor Brian Fennelly had a broad grin on his face because of a profitable day, regardless of the showers that continued all through the day.
“I’m absolutely delighted,” he informed Wokingham Today. “We had an enormous turnout from the individuals of Woodley. They at all times come out in pressure to this occasion and, as soon as once more, they haven’t allow us to down.
“We’ve been able to put on even more stalls this year and some great Christmas presents were bought, we’ve had some great food stalls, and some fantastic entertainment on the stage, so it’s been a great day.”
