A woman who spotted a dog running down a busy road stepped in to save her and brought her home, giving her another shot at life.

The April 15 TikTok video posted by user @hanterrr_ is from a car’s dash camera that shows the exact moment she spotted something in the road and pulled the car over. She saw a dog running along a dark, busy street. No cars were stopping, and she took action.

The driver pulled over, hopped out and directed traffic to help safely get the dog to the side of the road. The dog barely made it out without getting hit. In the video, the woman wrote that she was hesitant that the dog might be aggressive, but as soon as they were off the road, the dog’s tail was wagging. She embraced the pit bull and took her home.

It was at that moment, the woman knew it was her dog.

The caption reads: “To anyone that dumps animals, you’re an excuse of a human being. Luckily I could save her from people like you. Welcome home, sweet girl.”

The dog, now named Winnie, quickly adjusted to her new life with the woman who saved her. On the first night home, Winnie scarfed down two bowls of food and water before drifting off into a deep slumber that lasted the entire night. She couldn’t get enough of her first toy either.

Winnie was also taken to the vet, who believes Winnie is about 1 or 2 years old. She was cleared of any health concerns, other than her skin problems, which had been poorly treated, likely because she was outside.

“One of the vets said she was likely used for breeding and her ears were poorly clipped,” the text on the video reads.

Newsweek reached out via TikTok for additional comment.

Viewer Reactions

The beautiful rescue quickly tugged on heartstrings, as the TikTok clip had over 1.3 million views, 160,300 likes and 2,838 comments.

“You took that road for a reason. Thank you for saving her. She’s so cute,” a comment reads.

A second person wrote: “The way she ran over to you.”

Another added: “My heart dropped her getting across the road. I’m so very glad she’s safe and has a family to love her and that she can love.”
