In this routine enjoyable function, we discover more about travel retail pet-sonalities, their back stories, qualities and routines, in addition to providing some insights into their owners. Each pet-sonality is likewise painted digitally by animals and equine artist Sami Moodie.

In this edition, we satisfy Essential Communications* Founder and Managing Director Rowena (Row) Holland and Rey, a dynamic three-year-old whose objective is to keep her on her toes.

Introducing Row and Rey

Name: Rey.

Breed: Border Collie (75%), Kelpie (12.5%), Parsons Terrier (12.5%).

How old is Rey? He’s 3 years of ages.

Rey as a puppy, a small addition to the Holland household

How did you satisfy? Actually, my boy Alex purchased Rey throughout the COVID lockdown in 2020 at an outrageous rate. It ended up being a little bit of a rip-off due to the fact that Alex later on discovered the web picture he had actually reacted to (of normal fluffy Border Collie pups) on a Colorado website from 5 years back.

Rey showed up on the back of a pick-up truck. He was small, unclean unclean and brief haired. We simply needed to take him; we couldn’t not.

Love at very first sight? Absolutely. Rey was so small that he suited the palm of my hand. When we took him to the veterinarian for his very first jabs, they were encouraged he was a Jack Russell terrier.

I understood he had Border Collie in him due to the fact that of his strong black and white markings and unbelievably long legs and huge paws. Plus, we’ve had a Border Collie previously, who we regretfully lost in 2019. We had a DNA test done to validate that Rey wasn’t a Jack Russell and found he’s simply a little bit of a blend with a 100% Border Collie brain. He’s insane however really smart, with big ears.

Alex called him after the Rey character in Star Wars, who is female, however there you go.

It hasn’t all appeared cruising by any methods. Rey’s Border Collie brain implies he tends to go after things and we’ve striven to stop him pursuing joggers, bicyclists and anything else that relocations, consisting of lorries. We need to keep interruption toys to hand at all times as he still has his minutes.

Quirky routines? He likes to rest on my shoulders when I’m on the couch. He likewise likes to check out notification boards when we’re out on a walk. But, many of all, he likes to add and down the garden fence hoping that the fox who lives next door will come out and play. He even takes treats out to the garden to attempt and lure the fox with. It works; we’ve lost lots of a chew, bone, ball and sock to family Fox.

Funniest and/or best minute? Oh, he makes us laugh every day. He’s not too sure about kids and his defence position tends to be barking, so we’ve striven on enhancing that. He is now best friends with my friend Georgia’s four-year-old; so sweet.

Favourite technique? And treat? Being in the middle, in between my legs when we are walking. But he likes to sit with me too. Rey’s quite well trained; at least until something more interesting distracts him. That can be anything really, but he particularly likes squirrels. We’ve started doing agility classes. He’s brilliant. Sara (who takes the classes) says the owner needs the training.

Rey is not much of a foodie but is partial to a mince pie

Rey is a real fusspot when it comes to food, but he does love chicken and cheese (in moderation) and yogurt.

Social media account? Oh yes: @reythecrazycolliecross

Rey is always on the lookout for an adventure, a bit of mischief and, of course, playing with a ball

If Rey could talk what would his first words be? ‘Where’s the ball! Throw it NOW please’… again, and again and again.

Favourite airport/airline: Rey hasn’t travelled overseas yet. We’ve managed one stop on the local tram but I’m afraid aircraft are a way off yet. But we have been to Devon and Snowdonia on walking breaks which he likes.

Anything else we should know? Yes. Rey lives with Turnip who is almost 14 years old and has to put up with him every day. She would be very put out to think he is getting all the publicity.

Patient Turnip puts up with Rey’s antics and is happy to hang out with Harley the Cockapoo (above), or as a part of a playful trio with Rey (below)

My daughter Tilly’s Cockapoo Harley is also a regular visitor and has many sleepovers here. She leads Rey astray by guiding him into the muddiest puddles she can find. I believe it’s payback for having to stay with him.
