LYNDHURST, Ohio — The following is news about the South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools, as presented by the district.

Memorial Junior High Student Council holds bake sale

The Memorial Junior High (MJH) School Student Council demonstrated its school spirit and commitment to building up and serving others at the first MJH Student Council Bake Sale, held during its basketball team’s Jan. 17 home game against Strongsville Middle School.

Students and their families baked an assortment of delicious, sweet treats for those in attendance to purchase during the game. Students also brought homemade posters they had created during after-school meetings. Posters were made for student-athletes on MJH teams representing every winter sport, including the boys and girls basketball and cheerleading teams. The posters were displayed while students cheered for their peers.

The fundraiser took in $331, which will be used to help to support the Student Council and students at Memorial Junior High School.

Sunview School students support animal rescue shelter

Third grade students in Kim Erwin’s Sunview School classroom recently completed a project-based learning experience that provided them the opportunity to learn about various economic terms while also raising funds to support Marilyn’s Voice, a local animal rescue shelter.

Before winter break, students held a “pet sale” in the school lobby featuring a variety of colorful pet scarves and toys which they had created. By conducting the pet sale and participating in classroom learning activities, students gained an understanding of key economic concepts, such as loans, profit and collateral.

Thanks to the generosity of the Sunview Elementary community and customers at the local Pet Supplies Plus store, the third grade students raised $1,300 for Marilyn’s Voice, which will use the funds towards its mission of rescuing and rehabilitating dogs that have suffered abuse and neglect.

On Jan. 13, Erwin and her classroom presented a check from the money raised to the owner of Marilyn’s Voice. The class’s efforts helped provide dogs in need loving homes.
