His tail says everything ❤️

Meet Vardis — a 3-year-old rescue puppy who’s bounced in between shelters and foster houses for almost half his life.

Vardis invested the majority of his years alone, however all that altered just recently when he saw somebody he’d understood considering that the day he was born — and remembered her face quickly.

Jessica Jones

When Vardis got to One Tail At A Time (OTAT) in 2021, his rescuers didn’t understand much about his past. The Chicago-based shelter understood that he was taken in as a puppy by Chicago Animal Care and Control that summertime, however they had no concept how he wound up there or if there was anybody with him.

The just thing OTAT understood for sure was that the puppy was fighting a bad case of pneumonia. The circumstance was severe, so the group delved into action to provide Vardis the healthcare he required. Eventually, he made a complete healing and caught the hearts of everybody who looked after him.

As quickly as he was healthy adequate to enter into foster care, Vardis fulfilled his very first foster mommy, Lynsey. With Lynsey, Vardis discovered what it resembled to drop off to sleep in a caring home and get the correct workout his young, energetic mind required. Lynsey, in turn, found out more about Vardis’ character and quickly ended up being curious about his breed.

Lynsey provided Vardis a dog DNA test and was amazed to discover that the dog she presumed to be mainly black Lab was, in reality, half golden retriever and 45 percent American bully. She passed this info along to Vardis’ 2nd foster mommy, Jessica Jones, who invited Vardis into her home later on that year.

For a while, Vardis’ DNA outcomes had no result on his every day life. Under Jones’ care, he continued to check out the world and make brand-new good friends simply as he did in the past.

“I like to refer to him as an extrovert who loves to meet neighbors and say hi to his friends,” Jones informed The Dodo. “Once he meets someone new, that person is a friend for life! When he sees them again, he’ll insist on saying hello and getting a few scratches or a belly rub.”

Then, one day, Vardis’ very first foster mommy, Lynsey, got an email from somebody who’d offered their dog the very same DNA test. Their puppy, Brunch, was a DNA match for Vardis. They appeared to be the very same age, and they’d both originate from Chicago Animal Care and Control. Vardis had actually discovered his long-lost sibling.

Lynsey provided their info to Jones, who right away scheduled a playdate. At initially, Jones didn’t understand how Vardis would respond to seeing his littermate once again.

“I was a little nervous leading up to the meeting because Brunch’s family had indicated that Brunch can be a little selective when meeting new dogs, and Vardis also has had mixed experiences with meeting other dogs,” Jones said. “Vardis usually comes on a little strong, which is not always preferred by other dogs.”

But as quickly as Brunch and Vardis locked eyes, she understood she didn’t need to stress.

“It was so fun to watch Vardis and Brunch reunite,” Jones said. “They were both very comfortable with each other from the start!“

The two hit it off right away and seemed to pick up right where they left off. They started their playdate in the front yard with sniffs and tail wags, then quickly moved to the back, where they could really get their zoomies out.

“The two have very similar play styles,” Jones said. “Both like to bump their playmate with their butt to kind of herd them to where they want to be!”

The brother or sister duo ended their playdate by sharing their preferred treat — a cheese stick — then kissed each other bye-bye. They haven’t had another playdate yet, however Jones and Brunch’s moms and dads are eagerly anticipating getting them together once again quickly.

While Vardis awaits his next playdate with Brunch, he’s still on the hunt for the best permanently home. Because Vardis would do best as an only kid, neither Jones nor Brunch’s family are the best suitable for him.

“Vardis loves other dogs, but is probably best suited as a single dog with lots of dog friends to visit,” Jones said. “A loving home with people to cuddle and play with is what Vardis is looking for.”

Vardis can’t await the best permanently family to discover him. Until then, he’ll continue snuggling up beside his foster family and taking in all the love he’s got.

“He’s the sweetest, cuddliest 70-pound lap dog you can find,” Jones said. “He really is the best boy!”
