Henry Dearsley, 36, required a branch down animal chihuahua Boris’ throat and left him with missing out on teeth and mental retardation after his painful attack.

A report checked out to Colchester Magistrates’ Court exposed Dearsley continued to beat Boris after he knocked the dog unconscious over night on April 3 in 2015.

It said the dog would have remained in “fear, distress and pain for several minutes, possibly longer,” as the attack was performed in Clacton.

District Judge Christopher Williams branded the event an “evil” one, including: “Boris suffered sustained and relentless violence.”

Dearsley, of Old School Close, St Osyth, was imprisoned for one year after confessing triggering unneeded suffering to an animal and stopping working to secure its well-being.

He was likewise prohibited from owning any animal for 10 years.

Lauren Bond, prosecuting, said Dearsley’s partner awakened on the early morning of April 3 and discovered her dog “floppy but alive”.

“She picked it up and its eyes were bulging, it had loose teeth and there was blood coming through the mouth,” said Ms Bond.

The district attorney said blood was discovered on the carpet, on the couch, on damp wipes in the bin and on Dearsley’s clothing.

She continued: “Mr Dearsley would get jealous of the dog if [his girlfriend] paid it attention and he would throw it off the sofa.”

The court heard the dog was required to the veterinarians and euthanised due to the brain and head injuries he had actually suffered.

A post mortem assessment revealed proof of Boris having a hard time in a battle and suffering a torn liver, with a minimum of 5 occurrences of continual blunt force injury.

Selena Dines, mitigating, said Dearsley was having problem with his psychological health at the time and had actually not understood the effect self-medicating with marijuana was having on him.

But Judge Williams said he felt the accused should serve time behind bars.

He said: “You did trigger entirely unneeded suffering. You acted out of jealousy towards the dog.

“It was particularly nasty and evil what you did.”
