The RSPCA Lancashire East group is cautioning homeowners about fraud pails where individuals are professing to be from the charity to fraud homeowners out of money.
The charity presently does not have members of the group out on the streets gathering funds and wishes to ensure individuals stay mindful and to request for ID prior to contributing money.
James Stevens, ceo at the RSPCA Lancashire East Branch, said: “Our issue is that individuals are out and about walking around bars and clubs in the area with pails which are logoed up with the RSPCA’s logo design when we don’t typically do charity container collections of that type.
“The just time we may do a collection is for instance if we are doing a main street collection where there will be great deals of individuals around, we will remain in a public location, plainly determined as RSPCA workers with tabards and logo designs and our collectors will have main recognition.
“And clearly our issue is that individuals will offer money, there are extremely extremely generous individuals throughout the East Lancashire location, believing they are providing it to help the animal centre here simply outdoors Accrington.
“And in truth, they are refraining from doing that, it is somebody else there who is not a real collector for the RSPCA.
“I know it has happened in the past for lots of charities, it’s not just us, unfortunately people pretend they are from other charities too.”
James said himself and other members of the charity feel upset and upset that individuals are scamming homeowners.
He said: “It makes us feel extremely upset and upset that individuals are doing it when we work so extremely difficult to do the work that we do, restoring and rehoming ill, hurt, abandoned and mistreated animals.
“The group here work exceptionally difficult in all weather conditions and rather appropriately will get distressed that our name is being taken in vain.
“We require every cent that we can get.
“We are supported by regional individuals, every cent that we get here at Lancashire East has actually originated from individuals in East Lancashire which’s how we make it through.
“So, anybody who detracts from that is going to make us very angry and very upset.”
If individuals do wish to contribute, James said there are methods for individuals to understand it is genuine.
He said: “So we do have collection boxes in a variety of regional stores, bars and more and they will be plainly logoed on or behind the counter and they will state our names and those are all authorities, we gather from stores routinely.
“We don’t do numerous street collections as there are great deals of guidelines included so they are not something we tend to do typically and otherwise from time to time we run occasions which are well publicised where we will have collection boxes and other methods individuals can support us.
“Otherwise, if people want to support us, they can donate to us on our website.”
