Rescuers concerned the help of a lap dog caught in a storm drain in Los Angeles on June 23. According to KTLA 5, the extraction took a number of hours and needed help from numerous teams.

Dog pulled from storm drain by rescue teams

On Friday afternoon, locals of Avocado Heights observed a stray dog going through the community and concealing under a car near Belgreen Drive.

“It tried to snap when it came close to getting a hold of him,” Gregory Marquez informed the news outlet.

Around 4 p.m., the dog got stuck in a storm drain on the 1500 block of South Delamare Drive. That’s when next-door neighbors notified authorities.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department showed up initially. Initially, a firefighter dropped into the drain to locate the dog. However, he soon emerged empty-handed. Then, an urban search-and-rescue team showed up. But the dog stayed stuck.

“We tried food, we tried water, we tried to sweet talk him,” Denice Lopez of L.A. County Fire said. “He was scared. Every time we tried to grab him, he’d run back into the tunnel and so we were able to just grab him and pull him back out.”

Next, team members attempted dropping a long dog harness into the sewage system drain. They connected snacks, consisting of 3 pieces of bacon and 5 hotdogs, to the rope. Even that didn’t lure the little puppy.

After the 3 rescue efforts stopped working, yet another firemen went into the drain. After an overall of 2 hours, the lap dog lastly saw the light of day. When the puppy emerged above ground, next-door neighbors who collected to see the experience welcomed the dog with applause. Rescuers supplied water for the fur child.

Unidentified dog in care of animal control

While the 12-pound mixed-breed puppy was using a collar, it did not have an ID tag. The black puppy, which seems a senior dog, was considered to be in good health.

L.A. County Animal Control is taking care of the dog. If a pet parent doesn’t advance to declare the pooch within 10-15 days, he will end up being qualified for adoption.
