Presque Isle Rotary to host Paul Harris Recognition Evening

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Rotary Club of Presque Isle is inviting fellow Rotarians and group members to hitch them at their upcoming Paul Harris Recognition Evening on Thursday, Nov. 9. The membership will probably be honoring 5 people with Paul Harris Fellow Recognitions. These people have demonstrated excellent group service and assist to the Rotary Foundation’s efforts inside the group and past. Paul Harris Fellow Recognitions are the very best award in Rotary, recognizing those that have both contributed $1,000 to assist the Rotary Foundation and people whose life demonstrates a shared function with the targets of the Rotary Foundation. 

The membership is honored to acknowledge 5 group members with this recognition. The first, Rotarian Deborah Roark, at present serves because the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s govt director of University Advancement and External Affairs. Volunteerism and repair have been lifelong passions of hers and he or she is part of numerous organizations and boards together with the Northern Light Health AR Gould Hospital Board, Presque Isle Downtown Revitalization Committee, Presque Isle Rotary Club, UMPI Foundation, the Rodney and Mary Barton Smith Family Foundation and the Halfway Home Pet Rescue.

Roberta Griffiths may even be honored on the occasion. A Fort Fairfield native, she has served in lots of capacities over the years together with the UMPI Foundation, UMPI Board of Visitors, the Centennial Committee and the Presque Isle Garden Club the place she helped design and keep the gardens alongside the Presque Isle bike path referred to as Downing Park. She can also be very energetic in her church the place she has directed the kids’s choir, the hand bell choir, and the grownup choir.  

The third recipient of the night will probably be Rachel Rice who serves because the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s director of selling and communications. She is a previous president of the Presque Isle Rotary Club and co-chaired the membership’s Purple Pinkie Project for 10 years. She has served her group in a number of different capacities together with being a member of the Special Olympics Area Management Team, a scholar mentor with the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute and a board member of the Red Cross in Aroostook County.

Dr. Chunzeng Wang is the professor of Earth and Environmental Studies on the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Dr. Wang is a member of the Geological Society of China, America and Maine. He additionally serves on the International Application Trail Board of Directors, Maine GIS Consortium Board, and the Aroostook Outdoors Board.  Relentlessly pursuing educating and analysis to interact his college students, Dr. Wang continues to create new data of the geology of northern Maine and gives excellent service to his communities all through the area.

The closing honoree of the night will probably be Ray D. Hews (1888-1940). This posthumous recognition is to honor a previous President of the Presque Isle Rotary Club who handed away throughout his Presidency. Ray additionally served as president of the Northern Aroostook Alumni Association of the University of Maine, vice chairman of the Katahdin Council and Aroostook District of the Boy Scouts of America, govt committeeman of Maine Potato Growers, and numerous different boards all through the world.
