POLICE and the RSPCA came to Iverley near Stourbridge at the weekend after worried members of the public raised concerns over the welfare of dogs.

A group of around 20 concerned people gathered by the outdoor kennels on a field off Sugar Loaf Lane, near Fairy Glen, on Saturday (January 21) after concerns were aired on social media about dogs being outdoors in freezing conditions and about their health and welfare.

The dogs were being kept by Savaski Kennels – which has a string of videos on YouTube.

It advertises dogs on a YouTube video as being for sale under the title ‘Are You Interested in buying a Kangal or Alabai Dog?’ which shows footage of the dogs being kept on Sugar Loaf Lane as well as goats.

The owners are believed to have met with police and the RSPCA and it is claimed the animals have now been moved.

Police said no criminal offences were identified.

A spokeswoman for the RSPCA said: “The RSPCA is aware of and responding to concerns raised relating to a premises in Kidderminster.

“We are very grateful to people who report suspected animal suffering to us and we would like to reassure people we will always look into and, if necessary, investigate any complaints made to us about animal welfare.

“Unfortunately we are unable to discuss complaints about specific people and what action may have been taken.

“We understand how frustrating that is for animal lovers but releasing information could prejudice a future prosecution or could lead to us being fined.

“Depending on the circumstances, a lot of the time issues will be dealt with by advice and education and it is not always appropriate to publicise this information for legal reasons.”

Staffordshire Police said: “We attended a property on Sugar Loaf Lane, Iverley, Stourbridge, on Saturday (21 January), to assist the RSPCA following reports of animal neglect.

“No criminal offences were identified.”

The Savaski brothers share information on You Tube about the Kangal breed of dogs, which are bred for fighting off wolves to protect livestock in areas such as Pakistan and Iran.

People have raised concerns on the Facebook page The Old Quarter Stourbridge and a page called sugar loaf rescue has been set up.

In response to our request for a comment Savaski Kennels said they are preparing a video statement, which they will share with the news.
