Eight dogs, who’re within the care of RSPCA WA and are desperately ready to be rehomed, may quickly go home with a brand new proprietor after an Ellenbrook resident took it upon himself to snap free, skilled paw-traits of the pooches.
The dogs — which have spent a mixed whole of 1128 days on the Malaga-based rescue centre — had been snapped by Pixel Pets photographer James Orechow who mentioned he was serving to the dogs discover a “forever home”.
“I have such a huge love for dogs and to know these gentle beauties have been waiting here for so long breaks my heart,” Mr Orechow mentioned.
“If I can help them find a forever home, I will be thrilled.”
Last yr RSPCA WA revealed it had acquired over 7000 studies of animal cruelty within the 2022-23 monetary yr, an 11 per cent soar from the 2021-22 monetary yr.
But RSPCA WA shelter supervisor Emily Farrell mentioned Mr Orechow’s images noticed the “lighter side” of “shelter stress”.
“In 2024, now more than ever, the start of any successful relationship is choosing the perfect online profile pic,” Ms Farrell mentioned.
“James generously offered his time and skill to take stunning professional photos of these dogs to try and make them a bit more appealing to potential adopters so they can see past their size and a bit more into their hearts.
“In my experience, big dogs are often more calm and more receptive to other people and dogs, they just take up more room on the couch.”
Ms Farrell mentioned RSPCA employees had been “bracing themselves” for a “tsunami” of animals desperately seeking to be rehomed.
“In the last six months, just over 500 people have asked to surrender their pets to us … a third of those are because of housing or cost of living pressures,” she mentioned.
“That’s a 40 per cent increase on requests compared to the same time last year and a whopping 118 per cent increase in requests linked to the housing and cost of living crisis.”
