A Pendle veterinary practice is holding its very first session for pet blood donors.
Stanley House Vets in Skipton Road, Barnoldswick, will invite hero dogs to its branch on Saturday, September second, to take contributions to the Pet Blood Bank UK charity.
Eleven dogs have actually been registered by their owners to go to the very first session after Stanley House made a plea for help to satisfy the high need for blood transfusions. Each contribution might help to save the lives of approximately 4 inadequately pooches and the surgical treatment is now a host donor centre for the Pet Blood Bank.
Portia Keates, branch co-ordinator, led the appeal after establishing the charity collaboration in memory of her Greyhound, Ryker, a champ donor who
assisted approximately 50 dogs in his life time.
Portia, whose two-year-old Greyhound, Blake, is now likewise on the register, said: “I am delighted that we are able to hold our first session so soon after launching the appeal. We’ve had a fantastic response from the community in such a short space of time and there is still scope for more pet owners to get involved.
“Stanley House Vets has treated dogs who have needed blood transfusions. As pet owners, we don’t want to think about emergency situations, but the pet blood bank is a vital lifeline if and when they do happen so this is a really good cause to support.”
To be thought about as a donor, dogs need to: be healthy and fit; aged in between one and eight-years-old; weigh more than 25kg; have a good character and delight in being dealt with; need to not have actually taken a trip beyond the UK and Ireland; and need to not be on any medication.
The contribution uses up to 10 minutes, however dogs will be with the group for about 35 minutes. They will receive a complete medical examination from a veterinarian prior to contributing and receive treats and fuss throughout the appointment, along with a goody bag and toy to take home.
