Natalie Hirst was walking her American bulldog/Staffordshire bull terrier cross, Kobi, round Walverden Park on Monday night time (October 16).
She says a white XL bully “jumped through the bushes” and latched onto Kobi’s face in an attack she says lasted round 10 minutes.
Natalie stated: “Before I knew it this actually massive, white, XL bully jumped via the bushes and went for my canine.
“It gripped him by the neck and simply wouldn’t let go. I used to be simply screaming, asking the girl who owned the canine to assist.
“She didn’t rush to assist. She slowly walked over and tried to get the canine off.
“The canine was hooked up to my canine’s face for a very good 10 minutes and it was so exhausting to drag them aside.
“It had him pinned to the ground at one level.
“When we managed to separate them she still didn’t have a lead for the dog.”
Natalie, whose had was injured whereas attempting to separate the dogs, stated Kobi was coated in blood and the attack left him with puncture wounds on his face.
“It was absolutely horrific and there was a lot of blood,” Natalie.
“Thankfully after I cleaned him up there was not as a lot harm as I believed there can be.
“There had been a couple of puncture wounds. I believed his lips would have been shredded open.”
Natalie stated a toddler or smaller canine may have been critically injured by the canine.
She stated: “If that will have been a toddler or smaller canine it might have been ripped to shreds.
“It was completely horrific and wouldn’t let go. Its jaws locked onto his face.”
Natalie stated the expertise has left her feeling “terrified” about walking her dogs.
She stated: “Walverden Park is my go-to place to walk my canine. It has made me terrified to walk my dogs and I shouldn’t need to reside like that.
“I can inform Kobi is anxious too. He’s very cautious and his persona so totally different at this time.
“He is such a gentle and happy dog.”
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has pledged to ban American XL bully dogs by the top of the 12 months after a spike in canine assaults that includes the controversial breed.
Mr Sunak made the promise after it emerged a person has died after being attacked by two dogs – suspected to be bully XLs – in Staffordshire and following a video of one other incident that went viral when an 11-year-old lady suffered critical accidents in Birmingham.
Natalie doesn’t agree with the “bad reputation” that XL bully dogs are getting. She says she doesn’t blame the canine for attacking Kobi and thinks the homeowners are solely accountable.
She added: “I’ve associates with XL bullies and they’re beautiful natured when introduced up proper. They don’t deserve the unhealthy popularity they’ve.
“People should need a licence to get a dog. Some people just shouldn’t be allowed to have pets.”
