Lara animal lovers eye greener pastures after promoting rescue pet protected haven

A Lara animal lover is bidding farewell to a semirural property she’s spent years turning right into a protected haven for all creatures nice and small.

A pig named Wilbur, Paintpot the nice dane cross and former racehorse Mary are amongst numerous rescued pets Leisa Richardson and her husband Steve have thrown a lifeline.

Since fostering its first kitten litter in 2018, the couple has slowly tailored its 2.02ha Lara property to accommodate undesirable animals that will have in any other case have been euthanised.

But with a rising want to avoid wasting extra furry pals, Mrs Richardson has simply bought her home of almost 30 years with a future plan to scale up in area.

She hopes she may at some point add wildlife rescue to her resume after wrapping up a $1.45m pre-auction sale to a Bacchus Marsh purchaser.

She stated she had all the time had a ardour for animals and couldn’t stand to see them put down.

Her Lara property is nicely arrange for horses.


“When I was young my mum and dad ran their own business so we were never allowed to have animals but when I turned 11 I was allowed to get a horse and it just grew from there,” she stated.

“Basically all of the issues that we do to the home is to accommodate increasingly animals.

“I just love helping animals. They don’t expect anything. It’s unconditional love … it doesn’t matter if you’re fat, skinny, old or young, they don’t care.”

She first began volunteering at Sunny Days Rescue and Rehab in Lara, changing her research within the area of few hours to deal with her preliminary litter of foster kittens.

“I just decided it wasn’t enough room so I gutted my double car garage,” she stated.

Wilbur the piglet was later rescued from a petting zoo that was closing down, whereas former racehorse Mary, who was injured on the observe, is “living out her life of luxury” in Lara.
