Sarah Neill, a tutor from Grange, approximated the cub to be about ‘3 months old’ when it was generated. She is on the board of the International Otter Survival Fund (IOSF) and has actually been providing help to cubs given that 2012.
Sarah said that the cub was at the top of a fell due to the fact that he was beginning to ‘venture out of the holt to check out’ and otters that live along rivers have home series of 20 to 30 kilometres.
She said that if a cub is not in instant risk it is much better to monitor it prior to selecting it up in case the mom is still around.
Once the cub was at KCARC he was examined by Dr Lisbeth Tuckey and Dr James Wilford who offered him a treatment strategy.
The cub was called ‘Eden’ after the location he was discovered in. He will stay at the centre till he is 12-15 months old as that is the length of time otters stick with their moms.
The IOSF will share updates on Eden’s journey.
