Canberra animal professional photographer Ina J is contacting pawsitvitly corg-eous pooches based in the ACT to strike a paws and return to Canberra Pet Rescue all at once. Let’s raise the woof for Tails of the World, Volume 2.
The creation of Melbourne-based professional photographer Caitlin McColl, this stunning photobook of pictures commemorates our furry buddies by combining pet professional photographers throughout Australia, recording their contagious smiles, human-like characters, cute sweet taste and capability to change our lives.
But it’s when their puppy hairs change to grey that mementos like Tails of the World handle a much deeper significance.
For professional photographer Ina, the power of animal photography was something she experienced personally when, in 2019, she got the heartbreaking news that her precious dog Mac had cardiac arrest.
Determined to record what time they had actually left, Ina understood that a Doberman-sized space existed within the animal photography market. And while it had actually constantly been something she was artistically drawn towards, it remained in this minute of catastrophe that photography changed into a full-time profession.
“At the end of 2019, my dog Mac was diagnosed with heart failure. They told me he was only going to have six months (he managed to live for three years) but I wanted to get some nice photos of him and me. However, I couldn’t find anyone who specialised in pet photography, that’s when I thought ‘Oh, well, maybe I can do it’.”
Ina’s skills at masterfully recording pooches outside and on the relocation has actually enabled her profession to not just thrive however to return to charities while doing so, with her Tails of the World contribution no exception to this generous pawprint she is rapidly leaving.
As each animal professional photographer that’s part of this bigger collection of work contributes to their regional charity of option, Ina says it was necessary for her to return to a charity like Canberra Pet Rescue – noting their frustrating need for help post-pandemic.
“There are a lot of animals post COVID, and then coming back to work in the office, who didn’t realise how much time and work having a pet is. And so obviously, a lot of the Canberra rescues are quite inundated with animals, dogs, cats, and kittens, who need support before they find someone to adopt them. So I think it’s critical to help all these different charities.”
Now open for registrations, Ina will be examining applications for picture shoots to happen in May and June 2023, with 100% of payments going towards this motivating cause. But with just 10 pooches accepted to be part of the Tails of the World book to value fur-ever, Ina says animal owners ought to get in fast.
“I’m currently taking applications, and the photo shoot and photo session will be done in May and June because I’m booked out in March and April already. So I’ll be reviewing all our registrations, and then once it goes in and they have paid their registration fee, I will donate the collective registration cost to Canberra Pet Rescue, which will be around $1000.”
And while Ina is contacting modelling supawstars for this particular cause, she describes that her reservations (while they offer out fast), are constantly available to animal owners in the ACT.
A mild pointer that while our animals won’t live permanently, in some cases leaving as suddenly as they show up – ultimately, the discomfort will begin to recede more than it streams, and the images caught will exist to stay.
“They don’t live as long as us, so it’s just so important to capture these memories to remember them. And in particular, with Tails of the World, it’s the chance to help a charity and be featured in a book with other dogs around the world, and together you can share these permanent memories,” shows Ina.
