Adelaide is on the hunt for a missing Red Heeler named Dazzle, with her owner, Lucy Harrland, sharing the inspiring story behind the search.
Dazzle the dog was last seen in Glynde following her escape on December 6, with reported sightings in the suburb of Evandale at 2pm.
Dazzle’s story is emblematic of the “adopt, don’t shop,” mantra which encourages Australians to provide care and shelter for rescue dogs.
When Harrland first met Dazzle, she sought to give her now-deceased blue heeler, Ollie, a fluffy friend to keep him company.
In the shelter, Dazzle’s eyes were covered in filth, she was infested with fleas and had not been de-sexed, but Lucy saw more than a distressed dog… She saw a family member.
After she came home, the poor pup suffered from post-traumatic stress and struggled to eat for weeks, finding it hard to accept the loving bond that she had found.
Dazzle’s rough life had left her with emotional scars and likely triggered her escape on Tuesday after she had been spooked by a car on Stephen Terrace.
Residents in the Norwood area are encouraged to keep an eye out for Dazzle, but Lucy wants locals to be sensitive to her temperament.
“If it is possible to trick her into an enclosed yard and call the local council, this is our best chance of her being reunited with me.
“She has travelled so many kilometres trying to find her home. We have no idea where she is and can only hope that if word is spread far and wide, someone will be able to help us find her,” said Harrland.
The seven years of smiles shared between Lucy and Dazzle are a testament to the impact that dog owners can impart through adopting, often saving distressed dogs from scary and unsafe situations.
