Department Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit (ACIU) be part of forces to remind the neighborhood on present animal breeding and promoting legal guidelines.

These legal guidelines are aimed to guard the welfare of animals in the neighborhood as unlawful breeding and promoting can contribute to not solely pet overpopulation, but additionally animal cruelty and neglect.

·       Title 7, Section 7.14.020 establishes restrictions of animal promoting or transferring of possession.

·       Title 7, Section 7.14.030 prohibits the sale of puppies or kittens below eight weeks of age.

·       Title 7, Section 7.14.040 prohibits the sale of any animal through roadside, flea market, pageant, car parking zone or public right-of-way.

·       Title 7, Section 7.14.050 requires a allow for any person who deliberately or unintentionally breeds their feminine canine or cat inside 14 days of the litter being born.

·       Title 7, Section 7.14.080 requires a allow for any person who intends to breed any certified animal, similar to registered purebred animals, or animals meant for licensed service animals, search and rescue, or official use by legislation enforcement/authorities businesses.

“These ordinances underline our commitment to tackle illegal backyard breeding and promote the well-being of our beloved companion animals,” mentioned Sgt. Kristopher Serna with the ACIU. “We encourage responsible pet ownership and aim to create a safe and compassionate environment for all animals in our community.”

“By purchasing a pet instead of adopting, you’re supporting the illegal practices of these ‘backyard breeders’ that are only looking to make a quick buck, and taking a potential home away from a shelter or rescue pet,” mentioned Animal Services Director Terry Kebschull. “When you choose to make adoption your only option, you save a life and help curb the overpopulation of pets in our community.”
