“What happened with the dogs was not because they don’t love and care for them, but for financial reasons,” he informed Magistrates.
Brett Chappell, protecting Seel’s partner Debbie Slater, appealed for leniency and informed the court about the couple’s other dog – a Shar Pei – which was healthy and well.
“What occurred was not a purposeful act of cruelty, however her efforts fell well except what is appropriate,” said Mr Chappell.
The couple were prohibited from keeping animals for ten years and were each handed a one year neighborhood penalty with 10 rehab days.
