SHREWSBURY – Several lots well-behaved animals braved the light rain at Shrewsbury Common on June 3 as the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury held a Blessing of the Animals event.
“We wanted to do a pet blessing, but we wanted it to be a community event open to everyone in the Shrewsbury area,” said Rev. Holly MillerShank, who is the senior minister of First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury and an organizer of the occasion. “We wanted people to bring their pets, but if that wasn’t an option for them, we also invited people to bring photographs or stuffed animals they wanted blessed.”
The event began with MillerShank true blessing lists of left family pets. Before long, animals – consisting of dogs, cats, guinea pigs and Russian tortoises – lined up for their turn.
Conditions weren’t perfect – the rain and relative cold temperature levels caused umbrellas and raincoats – however none of individuals or animals appeared to mind.
“I hoped it would be a little bit warmer and a little bit drier, but we’re celebrating all of God’s creations, and that includes the rain,” MillerShank said.
The occasion was more than simply pet true blessings. Uhlman’s Ice Cream parked its ice cream truck beside the occasion, and kids rode around the town typical on 2 Ridge Valley Stables ponies.
Several family pet device suppliers established cubicles at the occasion, and the church’s youth group members took images of the animals at their family pet picture cubicle.
There was likewise a charitable element to the occasion. Members of the First Congregational Church, which is commemorating its 300th anniversary this year, gathered family pet food to contribute to the Worcester Animal Rescue League. The Worcester Animal Rescue League established a cubicle at the occasion with family pet adoption info.
