Deputy mayor Catherine Ehrhardt stated regardless of the neighborhood wanting higher management of cats to guard wildlife, the City had given an enterprise that needed to be fulfilled.

“While I totally and utterly agree with Cr Petersen-Pik, I feel that taking this step now is potentially going to put us in contempt of Parliament,” he stated.

Cr Giorgia Johnson stated the City ought to have caught to its weapons.

“We’ve been asked to change it but I think that change is not up to us because our community and council have said this is what we want to do,” she stated.

Cr Petersen-Pik stated the JSCDL had allowed different native governments to maintain comparable clauses and the choice to take away the City’s was made “behind closed doors”.

“If the parliamentary committee have an issue with it they have their powers to ask the Minister to ask the Governor to remove that clause,” he stated.
