On May 29, 2023, based on credible information, troops from Border Outpost Gobardha, 153 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, successfully rescued 03 pet animals and seized 05 cans of fish eggs from the clutches of smugglers along the International Border. The estimated value of the seized fish eggs is Rs 50,000. The smugglers were attempting to smuggle the pets and fish eggs from India to Bangladesh.
At 20:45 hrs, the vigilant jawans on duty noticed three smugglers sprinting towards the border.The jawans pursued and confronted the smugglers. Upon seeing the approaching troops, the smugglers abandoned the goods out of fear and fled, taking advantage of darkness.Upon reaching the spot and conducting a thorough search of the area, the jawans confiscated 02 Rottweiler puppies, 01 Himalayan Persian cat, and 05 cans of fish eggs.
The apprehended pets and fish eggs were handed over to the Custom Office in Tentulia for further legal action.
The Commanding Officer of the 153 Battalion emphasized that the BSF is implementing stringent measures to curb the smuggling of rare bird species and aquatic animals along the border. He unequivocally stated that BSF jawans will not tolerate any form of smuggling within their jurisdiction under any circumstances.
