BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
More than 2 lots dogs were killed in a fire that began in a kennel at a personal animal rescue early Sunday early morning, according to the Boone County Fire Security District.
Wayne Cummins, with the Boone County Fire Security District Captain, said teams were dispatched to a structure fire on the 10000 block of East Van Court Roadway simply after 1:00 a.m. When fire teams got here, Cummins said they discovered the 1200 sq feet building completely swallowed up with flames with the roofing collapsing.
“Sadly by the time we got here, the fire had actually been burning for rather a long time and all the dogs died in the fire. The house owner approximated about 30,” Cummins said.
Fire authorities said teams worked the fire for 2 hours with about 15 team members and 5 fire engine to put the fire out. Cummins included nobody was injured in the fire and the reason for the fire is under examination.
“Anytime you lose a family pet, you understand, that’s difficult for the family,” Windstorm Blomenkamp, Assistant Chief for the Boone County Fire Security District said. “Firemens never ever wish to see any family pets be injured throughout a fire.”
The approximated expenses of the fire are around $30,000, Blomenkamp included.
ABC 17 News teams on the scene spoke briefly with house owner Jordan Alexander about the Little Rays of Sunlight Animal Rescue. Alexander informed ABC 17 News teams on the scene she began the rescue due to the fact that she saw the requirement for help and wished to do what she could.
“We are ravaged and don’t even understand where to begin,” Little Rays of Sunlight Animal Rescue composed in a Facebook post. “Big thank you to our next-door neighbor who saw the flames and called 911. Unfortunately by that time, it was far too late… Please keep us in your ideas as we browse this disaster.”
A couple of hours prior to the fire, some puppies from the rescue were included in a “Puppy Yoga” session at the Dandy Lion Coffee Shop in Ashland.
“They were having a blast and were so complete of life,” Sarah Judd with Sarah’s Yoga Studio said. “Simply the other day, there was, I believe a minimum of 6 individuals asking Little Rays of Sunlight how they obtain these puppies. I simply can’t think it, they will get their houses.”
The yoga studio worked together with the rescue for a couple of months, Judd said. In October, she embraced a puppy of her own from the rescue, called Ichabod.
“They actually appreciate their dogs,” Judd included. “I can’t think of how difficult that is for them.”
Little Rays of Sunlight Animal Rescue began a charity event on it’s Facebook page. Those thinking about contributing to the rescue can go to here.
