Is this Britain’s pickiest puss? Black and white moggy ‘Seren’ has actually been tossed out of family houses and went back to Cats Protection 4 times because 2021

  • Seren is Britain’s fussiest feline after moving houses 5 times in under 2 years
  • The short-hair cat is utilized to having her own space and might whine and roar

At 12 years old and with her nine lives running out, you’d think this cat would have lowered her standards by now.

But after moving homes five times in less than two years, ‘unique’ Seren has been dubbed Britain’s fussiest feline.

The black and white domestic short-hair cat with distinct green eyes has been returned to the Cats Protection adoption centre in Evesham, Worcestershire, by four different families who couldn’t live up to her lofty requirements, since she arrived there in April 2021.

Seren was left by her former family a week before celebrating her 11th birthday after her owner moved in with a new partner who also owned a cat – and the two did not get on.

The picky puss is now looking for her forever home, which the shelter says needs to be child-free, with no other pets and where there is a low cat population in the area.

‘We’ve discovered Seren loves watching what’s going on outside, so a rarely used space to call her own, ideally with views for her to enjoy, such as a conservatory, would be our dream match,’ centre manager Charlie Hood said.

‘Seren has been used to having her own space and will need the freedom to be with you when she wants but also to go off on her own.

‘She can grumble, growl and swipe as a defence mechanism and might guard her resources, such as her food bowl. She needs an owner who is sensitive to her needs and makes sure she is not pushed too far.’

So far, staff-favourite Seren has only lasted between two days and two weeks before she has been brought back to the centre.

Her current stay at the shelter has already exceeded two months and she has watched all her fellow cats be rehomed in that time.

Louise Hill, a cat care assistant at the shelter, said: ‘Seren is such a character and really brightens up my day at the centre.

‘I love her unique personality and how vocal she is. Seren is always calling for attention, and she wants nothing more than to sit on your lap and have a cuddle.

‘Seren does have some anxieties when she first goes into a new home, so she is looking for an experienced owner who understands cat behaviour. She needs someone who is willing to let her blossom at her own pace. With time, she will become your best friend and definitely keep you entertained.’

Ms Hood added: ‘If you can give Seren time, she soon reveals herself to be a loving cat who enjoys spending time with you once she has come out of her shell.

‘She loves to play with a crinkly ball and is a great fan of catnip!’
