109 dealt with for dog bites

Between 2008 and 2022, 109 individuals were confessed to regional healthcare facilities with dog bites or dog injuries.

Sixty of those dealt with were kids under 16, comprising a bulk of the victims.

Ten of the clients dealt with for dog-inflicted injuries were aged 16-30; 8 were aged 31-45; 21 were aged 46-65; 3 were aged 66-75; and 7 were aged over 75.

More ladies and women (66) were hospitalised over the 15 year duration than guys and kids (43).

The biggest variety of hospitalisations happened in 2020 when 9 women and 3 males were dealt with for hurts.

In 2021 6 women and no males were confessed to healthcare facility and in 2022 3 women and 6 males were dealt with.

The ‘Journal’ just recently reported how 11 individuals were assaulted by dogs throughout Derry and Strabane in the very first 3 months of 2023.

There were 11 attacks on individuals and 7 attacks on other domestic family pets in between January 1 and March 31, 2023.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS), on the other hand, reacted to 275 emergency situation calls including dog attacks throughout the North in between 2020 and 2022.

The attacks included emergency situations where somebody was trampled, bitten or assaulted by a dog.

Ninety-one events were tape-recorded in 2020, increasing to 101 in 2021, and falling back to 83 in 2022.

The details for the years 2008 to 2022 was launched by the Western Trust in reaction to a Freedom of Information demand.

Coding was just available as much as September 2022.
