MONTREAL — Residents of 2 northern Quebec neighborhoods are the latest to be quickly left as an outcome of the province’s wildfires.
Officials in Chibougamau and the close-by Cree neighborhood of Oujé-Bougoumou bought the evacuations Tuesday night due to approaching forest fires and moving winds in the north.
Chibougamau Mayor Manon Cyr revealed the evacuation order for the town’s approximately 7,500 homeowners, asking those without family close-by to collect in Roberval, about 250 kilometres away.
In Oujé-Bougoumou, about 800 individuals were bought to leave and encouraged shelter would be offered in Chicoutimi, almost 400 kilometres to the southeast.
