Merrill Harris, reeve with the Municipal District of Taber said, “For nearly a year, the collaborative efforts between the Town of Taber, the Taber Police Service, and the Municipal District of Taber have resulted in a regional approach to bylaw enforcement through the Community Standards Unit Program.”
He included, “Today, we are pleased to see another neighbouring municipality, being the Village of Barnwell, participate in a similar partnership.”
The CSU will operate in compliment to RCMP in Barnwell, and will concentrate on imposing laws and provincial legislation, with a concentrate on proactive patrols in the town.
Taber Mayor Andrew Prokop revealed his enjoyment for the collaboration, stating, “This is the very first Collaborative Effort of a Regional Community Standards Unit in the Province of Alberta. We are very proud and thrilled to be part of this milestone related initiative, and very much look forward to great successes ahead for all parties involved.”
The Community Standards Officer ran the very first patrol of Barnwell on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.
