We know the Home Secretary’s statement this afternoon, validating that the Home Office wants to continue with its strategies to house asylum candidates in drifting accommodation at Portland Port.
Dorset Council’s position has actually not altered. We still have severe bookings about the suitability of Portland Port in this situation and we stay opposed to the propositions.
However, the council will continue to support and acknowledge the issues of our homeowners and regional businesses.
There are a variety of concerns which the Home Secretary’s statement does not attend to, we will continue to push the Home Office for responses and wait for more details.
