Foreign Secretary Lord David Cameron has been talking from the Falkland Islands in a single day.
His go to to the South Atlantic is the primary from a UK overseas secretary because the Nineteen Nineties, and comes following the election of Argentinian president, Javier Milei, who promised to take the islands for Argentina throughout his marketing campaign.
Speaking after laying a wreath to commemorate those that died within the conflict in 1982, Lord Cameron stated: “Let me be completely clear, so far as we’re involved, so long as the Falkland Islands wish to be a part of the UK household they’re completely welcome to be a part of that household – and we are going to help them and again them and assist shield and defend them completely, so far as I’m involved, for so long as they need.
“And I hope that is for a really, very very long time, presumably eternally.
“Now after all we wish to have good relations with Buenos Aires, with the Argentine authorities.
“The new authorities, I believe, have taken some constructive steps and we’ll have good relations with them, however it is going to by no means be on the expense of the desires of the Falkland Islanders who in our view completely come first on this method.”
In a referendum held in 2013, inhabitants of the Falklands voted 99.8% in favour of remaining a British territory.
